Bumper Cars

How many of us when we were kids, even adults, loved to ride in the bumper cars?

Bumper cars have been around since the 1920s, and the ride was hugely popular between the 1920s and the 1950s. Galaxyworld is bringing them back, and finding out that this is the answer to 21st Century road rage! Rosebank is the first centre to have them installed, with the concept being rolled out in more stores in the near future.

Theoretically, the goal of bumper cars is to move around the track, with the safety systems of the cars protecting people in the event of a collision, but most riders prefer to spend most of their time on the ride ramming each other. Each car has a large rubber bumper all around it, which prolongs the impact and diffuses the force of the collision.

Our bumper car rides are designed to be gentle, so fairly young children can use them without the risk of injury however, riders do need to be careful about allowing extremities to protrude from their bumper cars.

If you want to get technical about having fun.. Newton's third law of motion comes into play on the bumper cars. This, the law of interaction, says that if one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body exerts a force equal in magnitude and opposite in direction on the first body.
